How It Works
Worship - Community - Mission
We find that all Christians have been called to reach those far from God, Root them in Christ, and Reproduce others that believe and follow, through Relationships with others and Jesus. This is accomplished through Worship, serving the Community, and actively ministering through mission with Jesus.
EKKLESIA/ECCLESIA
This is the first term used to describe the church found in the Bible. EKKLESIA or ECCLESIA describes the gathering of the "called out ones." We believe that we have been called out by God to serve the Kingdom and that all who call themselves followers of Jesus contribute to this mission.
PASSION
We believe we have been called out to serve others and worship God, and to live out our passion of serving God and others throughout our lives. What else are you passionate about? We encourage everyone to find their passions and apply them to serving others and worshipping God in a holistic way. We have found that when we seek Jesus humbly with the focus of simple service, a mission is ignited through the Spirit by being surrounded by other believers in prayer through a missional focus.
Genesis
Some recovery churches have been started from small groups and then have formed into natural and organic simple churches, while others have been created from single believers or couples that have grown over time with a unique recovery focus. The foundation of the church is found in Acts 2:42 where believers congregated together focusing on teaching, fellowship, shared meals and the Lord's Supper, and prayer.
Prayer
We find Jesus when we seek Him. Groups start quenched in prayer and read Scripture together. We open with this prayer of awareness:
"God open our mind to think as you think, open our eyes to see as you see, our mouth to speak as you would speak, our heart to feel what you feel, and move our hands and feet to serve and act as You would."
We work together to see where God is guiding us, how He is calling us to act, and we start our mission.
Reading Scripture
We believe people are all recovering from something in their lives that Jesus can transform. The Life Recovery Bible points to God as the primary source of recovery and shares additional tools and features that help people connect with our Father. The Gospel is a process, not a one-time event. After reading a portion of Scripture, we read from the commentary section of the Life Recovery Bible and then ask four questions to guide our conversation:
1 - What does this story tell me about God?
2 - What does this story tell me about myself or others?
3 - If this is God's will for my life how will I follow it?
4 - Is there someone I should share this message?
12 Principles Connecting to God
We believe the Gospel is not merely 12 steps, but a process. No matter what principle you are working towards, it has often helped to "rinse and repeat". After reading and answering the questions through the Life Recovery Bible, we open up for prayer and praise, where everyone is invited to share what is going on in their lives for prayer or acknowledging God's work in their life and we respond with encouragement and support through our experiences, strength, and hope.
Transformation
From our brokenness we break others, but Romans 12 and 13 discusses how God will transform and renew our minds. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Light. In order to walk in Light we have to acknowledge the Truth and then continuously work towards living in it. When we believe and follow God transforms us towards recovery.
Wildfire
From this we see lives are more than changed, they are transformed, and it spreads like wildfire through our friends and family by using a simple structure that is easily reproduced. We offer free training, consulting, and resources for starting recovery churches, recovery groups and biblical training centers focusing on Discovering the Bible, Communicating the Bible, Church Planting, Old Testament 1 & 2, New Testament Gospels, Disciplemaking, New Testament Letters, Biblical Doctrine, Apologetics, Church History, and Spiritual Warfare.
Jesus Does the Work, We Just Follow His Lead
We are not alone. You are not alone. People throughout the nation and throughout the world are receiving a similar mission from God. Check out the resources page to see organization after organization, church after church, that are receiving the same vision. Join His work and follow His lead.
Imagine
Imagine a church that is not thought of as a building or location, but people with a recovery mindset. A simple, organic, dynamic, retro, spirit-filled, recovery-based church. A church that recognizes and calls all people to recovery, missions, and service. A church that serves the least of these and those in need. A church that does not take, but gives freely.
